In order to make sure that the online spaces we use take the public interest to heart, we need new arrangements that are rooted in our societies. With new EU laws coming into effect in the next couple of years some of the dominance of big tech will be challenged. This makes now an excellent time to work on these new arrangements and invest in public interest based digital spaces. In this session, we specifically focus on the opportunities for public bodies to collaborate with civic and commons-based initiatives. We will hear from actors from across Europe what  a different landscape could ook like and what is happening to ensure our technologies both in media landscape, public bodies and economy at large respect human rights and public values. We will explore the idea of collaboration across public en civic initiatives, and discuss how this collaboration can take shape in the coming years such that they empower communities as well as contribute to healthy digital ecosystems
