Designing for Equity

Workshop - Design routes for equitable access to digital public spaces

To access a digital public space, you need to verify your identity in one way or another. Sometimes an email address and password-combination suffices. Other spaces require additional credentials such as a BSN-number for DigiD or a bank account for iDIN. But what if you don’t have a BSN-number or a bank account? Or what if you have a visual limitation or if you struggle with digital technology in general?

Marit Hoefsloot and Max Kortlander, researchers at Waag Futurelab, have been exploring how to design digital public spaces that are accessible to all. Equity is the starting point. If you ensure that the most vulnerable and marginalised people have access to and can make use of the digital public space, everyone benefits. In this explorative workshop, you will work on your own examples of a digital public space. Together, you will design routes for equitable access to these digital public spaces!
