Outer space is frequently associated with significant scientific accomplishments, that benefit humanity as a whole. In the meantime, it's predominantly used for industrial, commercial, and security purposes, and most of the programmes are defined in the absence of civil society. How do we ensure the societal relevance of space technologies, with their applications in outer space as well as their spin-offs, or: how do we keep outer space public?
Eleftherios Kosmas (Libre.space), Xiao-Shan Yap (Space Commons) and Lars Petzold (European Space Policy Institute) present and discuss concrete examples of the civil development of open source space technologies, the level of civil involvement in space programmes, as well as the notion of space commons.
The panel is moderated by Miha TurÅ”iÄ (Open Space Lab, Waag Futurelab), and is made possible by the European project More-than-Planet.
