Nirit Peled
Independent Artist | Filmmaker | Journalist
Nirit Peled is a multidisciplinary artist, independent filmmaker and journalist whose work explores the intersection of narrative, power and technology across media. Educated at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (VAV) and the Sandberg Institute, her practice moves fluidly between visual art, research-based documentary, text and public engagement. With her work she investigates societal structures—both intimate and institutional—with a distinct sensitivity to the political, cultural and emotional layers that shape them. Peled made numerous films for the acclaimed Dutch VPRO series Tegenlicht (Backlight). Recent work features her documentary Mothers (2023). Lately, Peled started to develop Off The Record: an immersive performative lecture that unveils an algorithmic reality from the use of risk assessment tools by the Dutch police. Based on real events, she delves into the complexities of algorithmic systems employed to predict youth crime.
