The Battle Against Fake News

May 17

13:10 - 13:50

Grote Zaal
How do we provide the public with nuanced and well-researched works if the algorithm works against us?

Our democracy is at stake due to the disruptive effects of conspiracy theories and deep fake technologies. Fake news rules our headlines and impacts our daily lives, and disinformation is widely disseminated. Social media algorithms suck us into a trap of more of the same, polarizing our societies. This combines to create a parallel universe in which a common truth no longer exists. A variety of organizations and grassroots initiatives are working to combat these developments, applying different strategies.
