There is a growing concern about higher education's reliance on Big Tech. Companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft currently use university data for commercial purposes, which means that universities have no meaningful control over how their data is used (i.e. data autonomy). How do we maintain control over our data and ensure that data from academic institutions is used correctly? The University of Groningen is currently working on a strategy and roadmap to become more data autonomous. In this session, they will introduce us to their Data Autonomy Project. We invite everyone to participate in this session, even if you are not involved in higher education, because data autonomy is an important theme for all public organisations.
