Where's the Party?

Talk - How Do Artists and Venues Escape the Grip of Big Tech?

June 06 16:00 - 16:55 @
Theatrum Anatomicum

Language: Dutch.

Large music platforms like Spotify are of course an inescapable part of the digital landscape. Artists reach their audiences through algorithms, feeds, and playlists — but does that system actually still work in their favour? Do these platforms serve the creators, or primarily themselves? And do playlists like Discover Weekly really help us discover new music?

Meanwhile, the profits of platforms like Spotify and Meta flow to shareholders and advertising models. But where is the party for artists, clubs, and cultural venues themselves?

Moktar Nabil shares the initiative to build open-source agendas for clubs and venues, and Atze de Vrieze (3voor12) takes you through how Spotify has a grip on your listening behaviour. Artists themselves hold the key to bringing their fans to better places than the world of big music tech — fairer, more creative, and more independent spaces.
