Cynthia Liem

Associate Professor in Responsible and Trustworthy AI at TU Delft

Cynthia Liem is Associate Professor in Responsible and Trustworthy AI at TU Delft, and also a professionally trained concert pianist. Her research focuses in particular on perspective-broadening techniques (discovering content that would not naturally be selected), and questions around validation and validity in data-driven decision-making. In this work, she also actively collaborates with relevant stakeholders outside academic circles, such as investigative journalists (she was, for example, the first technical interpreter of the childcare benefits scandal in Trouw) and organisations seeking to implement responsible AI (for example, as independent director in DUO's internal investigation into possible algorithmic discrimination in the verification of student living allowances).
