Sara Spaargaren

Sara Spaargaren is the lab manager at the AI, Media & Democracy Lab, an NWO-funded, interdisciplinary research hub founded by the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, and the Netherlands Institute for Mathematics and Informatics. Sara works on integrating the Ethical, Legal, and Societal Aspects (ELSA) approach into the lab’s practices, by actively and continuously involving its societal stakeholders, facilitating co-design and sandboxing methods, and more. She has a background in political science, with an emphasis on transnational activism and human rights. Previously, Sara worked as a data ethics consultant and a community manager for citizen scientists. She also organizes the Masterclass Netpolitiek and is a board member of the Open State Foundation.
