We in the Netherlands and Europe have come to realise that digitisation has such a huge impact on our lives that safeguarding fundamental rights and public values in digitization is an essential starting point for the Netherlands to develop digital policy from there.

With the far-reaching technological developments in areas such as AI and immersive, it will only become more important in the coming years to use public values to make our society resilient against disinformation, and to ensure that everyone can keep up in the digitising world.

In the European field, this movement to protect values has also been substantially established by the new digital laws. The next few years are essential for the elaboration of these laws to ensure that digital services respect fundamental rights and are developed from there.

The Netherlands has developed a leading position in Europe in thinking and acting from public values. It cannot afford to move away from that and be left behind in Europe.
